THEN AND NOW...HOW BROMPTON HAS CHANGED !

 

Royal Engineers Band marching down Mansion Row and the same street in 2008. If you’ve seen the band the large bearskins and braided jackets may look odd. Up to 1939 the band had its own rather spectacular dress uniform. When they went back into full dress again the Corps was no longer able to wear its own so they were given it instead.

Brompton Businesses

There have been shops and businesses in Brompton from the start, these were just two of them. A photo taken by Sands at 5 Prospect Row of the Colonel of the Royal Marines Light Infantry in the 1880s or 90s and a pocket watch made in Brompton.

By the 1750s the village was almost complete, you can see the chalk pit which is where the garage on Dock Road used to be and Prospect Row along the ridge
